This home study program is designed to assist Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses to increase their knowledge of sickle cell disease. It is essential to understand the difference between sickle cell disease and sickle cell trait in working with newborns and older children who have these conditions. Nurses should also be able to answer questions which parents may have regarding the diagnosis, treatment and overall management of sickle cell disease in their child or children.
