This study is designed to present the normal anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system. This is essential in order to present the pathophysiology of hypertension. There are several classifications of hypertension as well as diagnostic criteria. The importance of knowing how to take a correct blood pressure is essential. There will also be presented risk factors, symptoms, and complications of hypertension. Also included are the various categories of antihypertensive medications that are used, the method of action of each, and side effects of the drugs. The importance of adequate teaching regarding these medications is covered.
