Diabetes Mellitus is one of the most devastating diseases in the United States. Over the past century, it has increased until it has reached epidemic proportions. It is a very serious disease with devastating complications, for which there is no cure. Much research is ongoing into the development of the different forms of diabetes and the treatment modalities for each. This study is designed to assist the nurse in developing an appreciation for the implications of diabetes mellitus.
